6th Grade AVID Applications
AVID is a program designed to prepare middle school students to meet the requirements of College preparatory classes so that they may enter into a four year college or university upon completion of high school. Students will develop and reinforce attitudes, Skills, and knowledge in all content areas. AVID students at Chalone Peaks Middle School, will go on to the AVID program at King City High School.
The AVID student is generally one who perfol1ns at an average level but could do better through the use of strategies and techniques. Generally, the AVID student is the first generation to attend college. An AVID student's GPA can average from 2.0 to 3.5, showing ability but lacking in performance.
The AVID elective works with students to improve underrstanding of all subject areas through the use of reading, writing, speaking, note-taking, organization and the opportunity to work using higher levels of thinking in cooperative learning groups.
Skills and ideas will be further enhanced through college fieldtrips, guest speakers, and additional curricular activities. The AVID elective class will allow students to develop ideas within their interest and academic level.
